Workshops & Community Engagement

OBJECTIVES

The Ultimate Goal is Healing…

ARTISTS HEAL® workshops seek to provide tools derived from decolonized artistic practices and processes to create more accessible avenues for marginalized and vulnerable communities to embrace healing, navigate harm, and engage in collaborative art-making.

Workshops are designed to help folx explore the possibility of healing from personal, collective, and institutional trauma through development of an artistic practice, increasing the capacity for engagement, and healing through inter-dependent community development while doing so.

Participants will leave these workshops with an understanding of the possible origins of personal, collective, and institutional trauma, practical tools to engage in the process of healing from past experiences, and the ability to navigate and redress the possibility of future harm.

THE WORKSHOPS

Decolonization & Prioritization Foundations:
Artistic Practice and Process

Decolonization & Prioritization Foundations is an all-inclusive workshop that will introduce theories and strategies to decolonize collaborative art-making practices and prioritize the needs of marginalized and vulnerable communities. This workshop is based on indigenous practice and supports the idea that when the body is in its natural state, creativity, authenticity, and engagement are the inevitable byproducts.

This workshop will challenge collaborators to center the marginalized when making, explore decolonized pathways to creating, and begin to develop a practice that supports and prioritizes vulnerable communities over product. Participants will leave with a tool kit including methods, practices, and processes to better serve themselves and create equitable and self-liberating spaces for marginalized folx.

Holistic & Effective Management Strategies:
A Healing Workshop for Arts Administrators, Managers, and Leaders

Holistic & Effective Management Strategies is an all-inclusive workshop for Arts Administrators, Managers, and Leaders looking to obtain holistic and effective strategies to navigate harm, heal and implement decolonized practices while working in service to collaborative art-making.

This workshop encourages and empowers participants to embrace their roles in the arts and translate their administrative, management, and leadership skills into developing a practice designed to create self-liberating spaces for themselves and collaborators. Participants will leave with an understanding of how to effectively use tools, practices, processes, and methods designed to dismantle systems and structures of White Supremacy and contribute to holistically structured working environments for artists, collaborators, and colleagues.

Reset & Restore:
A Healing Workshop for Black Artists

Reset & Restore workshops are for Black artists, creators, and makers looking to become trauma-informed and obtain tools to embrace for themselves or facilitate healing and care spaces while collaboratively art-making.

Reset & Restore workshops provide an exclusively Black identified space to process, begin or continue healing, and overcome obstacles to creating, particularly when working or creating in PWI spaces.
